Artist, Filmmaker
a.k.a / part of
Joe Preston is filmmaker and artist interested in the boundaries between fiction and documentary. He has written and directed both fiction and non-fiction. He works between the two in the hope of cross-pollinating the different disciplines.
Joe’s films are preoccupied with how we see our own history and how we are shaped by it, be that a political history or a personal one. He looks at telling stories through individuals, rather than events. His work ‘The Victory Arch’ tells the story of a British engineer who built Saddam Hussein’s most famous statue a few miles outside of London. And his previous fiction-short, ‘At the Table, On the Menu’, is centred around the conflicted and personal motivations people have for their involvement in political protests.
